Ferrets can be a great pet and entertaining too.  Fun ferret facts emphasize that they should be out of their cage more than they are in it. If you do not have the time to play and be with your ferret as that is what a ferret need, than consider getting a companion for him or her.  A ferrets love attention more so than most pets.  Adding another ferret will give the companionship to your first ferret if you cannot be around to play with him or her.

Like any pet, it is a good idea to ferret proof your house or apartment to keep him or her safe, which can be a bit tricky. Your friends and family should be trained to keep an eye out for your ferret.  Another of many ferret facts is they have flexible bones and are amazing climbers, which enable them to get into places, even out of reach.  Ferrets are smart and can get into anything, especially when you are not around.  Since they are little creatures, they can get under furniture to hide and dodge you very quickly.  When you open the door, be aware that your ferret will be there first!

My favorite of the ferret facts, say that ferrets can be litter trained with litter boxes strategically placed around the house so they will be at their disposal.  It is a good idea to keep newspapers around the litter box as they do make at least one mistake a day.  They do have an odor to them that most pets but ferrets are still a cute and adorable pet to have at home.

Ferrets are prone to diseases such as canine distemper.  Canine distemper is fatal to ferrets.  Symptoms include rashes near the groin area, underneath the chin, nostrils and eyes have a pus-laden discharge, and foot pad become thick. Ferrets dye after a 3 to 31/2 weeks after they are exposed to the virus. It is a good idea to see a vet to get shots to protect your ferret from this horrifying disease.

Another life threatening disease is heat period.  A ferret who is subjected to a prolonged period of sexual heat that lasts 180 or more is dangerous and life-threatening.  A ferret can be in heat for more than once during their menstrual cycle, which is March through April and if you are not going to bread her, than she should be sprayed between 6 and 8 months old.

Fun ferret facts suggests that ferrets are great pets but need lots of love an attention and if you cannot give that to them, than getting another ferret would be a good choice of companionship until you get home.  Take your ferret to the vet as soon as possible and get him or her checked over and given the proper shots. Remember that ferrets love to climb and can get into very tight spots and to watch the door so they don’t get out. Ferrets are a world of fun!
